A Very Special 95th Birthday Card

Posted in Let's Get Creative
on November 13, 2017

There are not very many people that live into their ninties, but I have a wonderful lady in my life that has.  She is my sister’s grandmother-in-law and the sweetest person you could ever know.  This month she is turning 95 and she has more energy than most people I know. My sister asked me to design a special card for her and this is what I came up with.

A Very Special 95th Birthday Card

The card idea from Anne Hewins at

I have always loved the Vintage Leaves stamp set but never thought of using pink and purple with it until I saw Anne’s. I added gold accents to mine and really like how it turned out.

Here are the supplies you need to create this.

Ideas to Make Your Own Christmas Cards This Year

Christmas cards are one of the oldest traditions of the holiday season. And there is isn’t anything like a handmade Christmas card to show you care.  Making your own Christmas cards is just a more personal and special manner to express your Christmas wishes and greetings.

However many people are skipping the tradition of sending holiday cards altogether due to high postage or the simplicity of e-cards. I hope you won’t be one of them. There’s really nothing quite like the surprise and feeling of receiving a real card in the mail, especially a handmade one.

5 Reasons You Should Send Christmas Cards

Boosts happiness

Many of us are inundated with emails each day, so it’s refreshing to receive a real card in the mail that let’s us know our loved ones are thinking of us. According to Psychology and Aging, receiving Christmas cards increases feelings of happiness, especially in older people who may not be as tech savvy as others. And of course, the more the merrier.

Keeps loved ones in the loop with your life

Taking the time to write out highlights of your year and big updates in your life keeps your friends and family in the loop with what’s happening with you. Sending a Christmas card gives a more personal snapshot of your life than just reading short Facebook updates every now and then.

Serves as decoration for friends and family

The festive holiday portraits, Christmas colors and warm holiday wishes often times serve as Christmas decorations in your friends and family’s homes. People love to display all the Christmas cards they get in the mail to have a reminder every day of all the special people in their lives.

Updates your address book

Sending a Christmas card is the perfect reason to reach out to loved ones who may have moved during the year in order to update your contacts with their current addresses.

Gets you on other’s Christmas card list

It would be pretty sad to not get any Christmas cards in the mail, wouldn’t it? And though it doesn’t happen overnight, that is what happens if you stop sending them. Gradually you drop off of other people’s lists until you’re only getting a few. The good news is you’ll be back on their list the minute they get your card in the mail.

But whatever your motive, receiving a Christmas card that you’ve made is sure to make anyone happy and prove a memento they’ll likely keep for a long time.

Stampin Blends Contact me

Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers are now available in my shop and if you love to color you are going to love these!

At the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo in Grapevine last March I had a chance to use alcohol markers for the first time and loved it. They are nothing like water based markers.  I am so excited that Stampin’ Up! has decided to start selling them again.

They are easy to use, blend beautifully (no marker streak marks) and are going to fly off the shelf!

If you want to blend but don’t want to spend a lot of money and don’t want to buy 300 markers (Copic) the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers are the perfect solution!

Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers Information

There are 12 colors that includes two neutrals that come in combo packs.
There is also an Ivory and Bronze.
There is a Color Lifter – you NEED this! Please don’t buy any markers if you don’t get the Lifter. In the class I took I found out the blender pen is what makes the magic happen.

You can purchase just the colors you want or you can purchase the entire collection!
Other items you need:
Memento Black (because alcohol markers bleed you don’t want to use Black Archival or Staz On)
Whisper White Thick Cardstock (alcohol markers bleed thru, thick white will work best to protect your work surface)

I will be sharing videos very soon using the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers to help you learn how to use them!  Until then consider ordering a few and be ready to learn!
