The Golden Aspen Leaves of Fall

Vintage Leaves Falling Yellow Aspen

I love the beautiful golden aspen leaves of fall.  I’ll never forget the first time I saw a golden Rocky Mountain fall.  It is so different from the vibrant red and orange fall of the Appalachians.

In October of 2006 my husband and I were driving to the Grand Canyon. Just as we crossed into Arizona from the New Mexico side we stopped for a 3 mile hike on Escudilla Mountain.   At first it was just an ordinary hiking trail through slender white trunks of an aspen grove. But the higher up the trail the more beautiful the forest became.  On this bright blue day sunlight was dancing through the quaking golden aspen leaves that had not fallen yet turning the whole forest into a magical kingdom.  I couldn’t get enough of this dazzling display of God’s spectacular creation. And today every time I see an aspen leaf it take me back to the glorious day.

Golden Aspen Leaves on Escudilla Mountain

The Vintage Leaves stamp set from Stampin’ Up! has an aspen leaf and I thought it would be fun to try and create a card that captures the beauty of the golden aspen leaves. I used the aspen leaf stamp on Crushed Curry cardstock and accented the card with Fresh Fig. I hope you like it.  All the supplies I used can be purchased in my shop that you can get to by clicking on the images below.

Lovely As A Tree Fall Watercolor Background Card

Posted in Let's Get Creative
on August 18, 2017

Happy Friday! I have another watercolor background card for you today. But instead of using the baggie and marker technique like I did HERE,  I did it the traditional way using a paintbrush. I used Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive ink to get this beautiful sunset background.

Lovely as a Tree Watercolor sunset background

To prevent warping, always tape your watercolor paper to a hard surface before you begin. To get this sunset look first completely cover your paper in clean water. Then starting at the top paint yellow going back and forth in a sweeping motion. Continue in a sweeping motion switch to orange and finally green. In the picture below you can see where I tried masking off some mountains but I ended up not liking it and painted the whole top yellow.

Creating the Card

Use a heat gun to dry your paper completely before taking it off the board. Once it is dried it’s time to create your card. Stamp the Lovely As A Tree stamp in black to give the effect of a silhouette from the sunset. To create the Give Thanks medallion I stamped the Give Thanks stamp from Labels to Love stamp set (not available until Sept 1) on Vanilla cardstock in Soft Suade then cut it out on the Big Shot with the Layering Circles and matted it with a Pumpkin Pie card stock scalloped circle.  I mounted the watercolor paper on Early Espresso cardstock. Before putting all on a card base I attached a Crushed Curry ribbon for the finishing touch.

I hoped you like today card. All the supplies I used are listed below. Each image is a link to that product in my shop.

Vintage Leaves Watercolor Background Thank You Card

It may be August but one walk into a local craft store and you’d swear it was October! Pumpkins and leaves and scarecrows! Oh my!

Fall is my favorite time of year and orange is my favorite color.  I’m an October baby and so is it any wonder I’m ready to get my fall on.

Vintage Leaves

Today’s card is brought to you by the Vintage Leaves stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

For the background I used the water color technique I wrote about a few days ago. If you missed it you can see it HERE.

I stamped the leaves on Whisper White cardstock in Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight ink and cut them out using my Big Shot. The “Thank You” sentiment is from the Daisy Delight stamp set.

Most people find it so much easier to get that wow factor with the focal images cut out and popped up on dimensionals and the Leaflet dies make it so easy.  If you want your leaves to pop you will definitely want to get the Leaflet thinlits along with the stamp set.

All the products I used to make this card are listed below and in my shop. Just click on the picture to get there.

Craft Fair Series 2017- Mini Coffee Cups

Do you sell papercrafts at craft shows?  If you do you will love my new series, Craft Fair Series 2017.  I am starting the series today and will be featuring a different craft each week.  The series will be every Wednesday. Be sure to sign up for my Newsletter and post updates so you don’t miss any of the cute ideas.

Mini Coffee Cup Treat holder

For my first featured craft I bring to you the Mini Coffee Cup Treat Holder.  I have been seeing these adorable little coffee cups all over Pinterest.  And at my last craft show they were one of my best sellers. So it only makes sense for me to make some with a fall theme for my September craft show. I just finished these and will be making Halloween, and Christmas themed ones as well.

Mini Coffee Cup Fall

Doing craft shows is something I love to do and it helps me use up my old scrapbooking stash that never gets used.  I may never become a billionaire this way but it does help support my little craft supply habit.

Making these little treat holders is really easy. To find out how click HERE  and see the post I wrote earlier explaining how.
