Bible Journaling Through Lent: John 11:25

Then Jesus said to her, “I am the Resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me though he die yet shall he live.”

Bible Journaling Through Lent Week 4.  I am really enjoying participating in this series with Sarah Knepper over at RedemptionDiary.com

Today’s Lenten devotion is an event that takes us back to Mary and Martha’s house. The same Martha that complained to Jesus that her sister was not helping her in the kitchen when Jesus and his disciples were there visiting. This time she complains that Jesus didn’t get to her home in time to save her brother.

I think a lot of us are like Martha, so caught up in our stress and troubles and blame God instead of realizing God is with us and has the power to turn things around for good.  There are so many things in life that make us anxious. Like the frustration we feel when we’ve say yes to too many favors from other people or the loneliness we feel sitting in an empty house because the kids are grown and gone and even the guilt we feel from not wanting the responsibilities of taking care of aging parents.  And yes like Martha the hurt we feel when losing a loved one, which is the worst of all.  And all we do is complain to God of all our troubles instead of asking him for help.

In the story Jesus shows Martha who he is by raising her brother from the dead and in just a few more days after this story Jesus himself will rise from the dead. And if God has the power to raise the dead back to life then you know he has the power to take our pain and suffering away too.  He wants to show us this power and love he has for us. All we have to do is ask.

If there is one thing I have learned in all my years of living through difficulties it is that God loves me and only wants what’s best for me.  And he loves you too.  As we get closer to Easter Day I pray you will meditate on this verse too and remember he is always with us and here to comfort us in our sorrows and give us his peace when life gets just a little too much for us to handle.

Bible Journaling Through Lent: Psalm 145:18

The Lord is Near to All That Call on Him

Today, I’d like to share with you my journaling piece from last week for Bible Journaling Through Lent. I am following Sarah Knepper over at RedemptionDiary.com  She has put together a set of verses for us to journal through the Lenten season.

I love this verse.  It reminds me that no matter how difficult life gets Jesus is always there to help. There have been many times in my life where I have tried to do it all on my own and would feel like I was drowning in obligations and responsibilities. But, like Peter when he tried to walk on water by himself and started to drown, I know all I have to do is call out and Jesus will be there.

I hope this inspires you to do some of your own creative art while meditating on God’s word.

Peace and Love,

Kristina

#biblejournalingthroughlent

Happy second Sunday in Lent.  Today’s devotional verse is a little too long to fit in the journaling space of my Bible so I just took the first phrase.  In the Bible journaling community you may see people who paint and journal all over the Bible page, but I like to be able to see the scripture so I can read where the verse came from. Just my preference.

Last week I shared with you that I trace so my Bible journaling is nice and neat.  Today I want to show you what I mean.

The space in my journaling Bible is 2 inches by 7.5 inches.  So I create a image box that size in my digital scrapbook software (Artisan 5) Then I add a text box and digital art to fit that space.  Finally I print it.

After covering my Bible page with matte gel and letting it dry, I place the printer paper under the Bible page I want to journal. Then trace. It really is easy.

I create on the computer, print then trace.

I hope you are enjoying the Lenten season.  Do you Bible journal?  I’d love to see it.  Let me know in the comments below.

God bless and keep creating,

Kristina

How to do Bible Journaling When You Can’t Draw

Posted in Tips & Tutorials
on March 7, 2017

Good Morning! Today is the first Sunday in Lent and I wanted to share with you my first Lenten Bible Journal.  Bible journaling is not only fun but it’s a great form of meditation that produces an incredible lasting impression. I am following Sarah over at sarahknepper.com She has picked 6 verses for us and we are sharing them on Instagram #biblejournalingthroughlent

I tried Bible journaling last Lent but only got one page done. So, this year I’m going to use my blog for accountability. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss next week.

You may say that’s pretty but I could never do that.  Well let my tell you I used to think that too until I learned the best trick.  I don’t draw, I trace!  Also because I’m so new at this I searched pinterest for some ideas for this week’s verse and found this beautiful example from Joanie over at Artsy Faith. She did hers free hand but I created the word art on my computer, printed it off and then traced it.

created by Joanie at Artsy Faith

Another thing I learned is that if you don’t want your ink to bleed through to the other side of the page you need to Gesso it first.  So, last night I put a clear thin coat of matte gel over the entire page and this morning I was ready to journal before church.

Use a credit card to scrape off the excess.

First I colored the background. To create the sun I simply used a watercolor pencil and colored it in then used my blender pen to make it more like a watercolor painting. Then I traced the words from the words I printed on my computer.  Voila! Beautiful Bible journaling.
